Pedestrians and cyclists are far more attuned to the environment in which they are moving than faster moving motorists. Planning for pedestrians and cyclists does not follow the same the same logic as motor traffic planning, which normally involves a ‘motor vehicle’ – ‘trips’ – ‘routes’ – ‘traffic network’. It places more emphasis on the environment and the conditions along routes and at attractors. An important aspect of the Parkes Shire Pedestrian and Cycling Strategy is to build an understanding of the elements that will make a good pedestrian and cycling network in the Parkes Shire context.
