Our journey
What has the City of Subiaco achieved in the past in energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable transport or broader sustainability?
The journey towards lowering emissions has already begun! Over the last couple years, the City of Subiaco has invested in solar infrastructure and now has a generation capacity of 162.78kW of solar energy spread out over five sites. The City has also been busy greening its fleet, including the recent purchase of four fully electric Nissan Leaf vehicles and four Toyota Corolla hybrid vehicles. This will reduce emissions by 59 tonnes and save more than $20,000 in fuel costs in 2020 alone.
What does the City of Subiaco hope to achieve in the future in energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable transport or broader sustainability?
The City of Subiaco will be actively working towards achieving the objectives of its Corporate Carbon Reduction Plan 2020-2030. This plan has clear and ambitious targets in emissions reduction (45% by 2030) and renewable energy (100% by 2025) for council operations.
There will also be new investment in cycling infrastructure as the bike plan is currently being developed with extensive community engagement.
What does the City of Subiaco hope to gain from being a member of the Cities Power Partnership?
The City of Subiaco sees great value in harnessing the collective knowledge of local governments to increase the sustainability and resilience of our municipality. In particular, the City is looking forward to learning from the experience of other local councils and being part of a larger movement progressing the necessary energy transition.
