Margaret River, one of the world’s most beloved surf spots, is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts unless urgent action is taken.
That’s why the Shire of Augusta Margaret River hosted a community-driven Climate Action Summit that brought together Surfing WA, the World Surf League and 130 members of the community to workshop solutions and develop a plan to limit climate damage to one of Australia’s most iconic surf coastlines.
Former Augusta Margaret River Shire President Pam Townshend said that hosting the Summit alongside the Margaret River Pro highlighted what’s at stake for the area unless action is taken to tackle climate change.
The Climate Action Summit featured the following speakers:
- Tim Flannery, Climate Councillor, The Climate Council
- Tracie Armstrong, Cities Power Partnership director
- Ben Elton, best selling author, comedian, playwright
The Cities Power Partnership supported this event to help turn the tide on climate change.
