Wagga City Council has voted to apply for a Climate Council initiative aimed at improving efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
The nationwide “Cities Power Partnership” program would see Wagga “buddied up” with two other councils to share knowledge, such as Riverina Water County Council, which had also applied.
According to a report presented to councillors, members are given six months to select five “green” actions ranging from renewable energy, efficiency, transport and advocacy. They then get a further six months to start putting them into action.
Staff advised councillors while there was no cost associated with joining the program, there would likely be costs involved with meeting the green outcomes.
Councillors asked to see costings for potential actions, before voting unanimously in favour of the program.
