The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will present its clean energy credentials at the launch of the Cities Power Partnership in Canberra today. Councillor Suzie Williams will speak to an audience of representatives from 35 local councils from across Australia.
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is one of just four WA local governments — and the only regional council — invited to join the Cities Power Partnership. Representing more than three million people, the councils will pledge to tackle rising emissions and worsening climate change through local action and solutions.
Cr Williams, representing the city in place of mayor John Bowler, said Kalgoorlie-Boulder had been selected because of its outstanding clean energy record. “I have been on the council for a while and we want to be a clean, green city and our vision is that we want to be a sustainable city,” Cr Williams said.
“We are building on our strengths. Kalgoorlie has always been ahead of the game with energy. If you look at our heritage, we were early adopters of new technology, the water pipeline being a great example.
