Climate Summit for Local Government

Sept 6-8, 2023 | Melbourne
We’ve been crunching the numbers to see which councils are making big strides on their climate change commitments.

Every year, we roll out a Reporting and Feedback Survey to our member councils to gain insights and help inform the future of the program. As part of this we receive an update on their Cities Power Partnership pledges.

We are thrilled to see that 50 councils have completed pledges in the last 12 months. The three most common pledges completed were:

  1. Install renewable energy (solar PV and battery storage) on council buildings
  2. Set city-level renewable energy or emissions reduction targets
  3. Power council operations by renewable energy, and set targets to increase the level of renewable power for council operations over time.

For some background, when a council joins the Cities Power Partnership, they have 6 months to select 5 pledges within the categories of renewable energy, efficiency, transport and working in partnership.

Please join us in congratulating these councils on completing a pledge (or more!) in the last 12 months. Give your own council some love by sharing this article with them and celebrating their action on climate change.
