Our journey
What council has achieved in the past in energy efficiency, renewable energy or broader sustainability
The City of Swan has been active in energy efficiency for a number of years, using a holistic approach across the organisation and community. In this time we have completed a total LED retrofit of our administration building, reducing lighting emissions by 61% each year, and installed more than 70kW of rooftop solar panels with plans for substantial further investment in coming years. We have also developed a comprehensive community education program called Thinking Green, trialled electric fleet vehicles and installed two charging stations. The City has targeted efficiency in our fleet emissions and also developed a comprehensive waste management approach, including education and innovative recycling opportunities.
What council hopes to achieve in the future in energy efficiency, renewable energy or broader sustainability
The City of Swan intends to develop our activity in energy efficiency in coming years with further rollouts of current initiatives and by seeking new opportunities to drive energy efficiency within our organisation and community. Internal initiatives will be supported with the continued development of a comprehensive and responsive community education program. Specifically, in coming years we aim to introduce LED lighting more widely wherever feasible, to further reduce lighting emissions, to continue with the installation of rooftop solar in keeping with current investment plans and to introduce electric fleet vehicles and further charging stations. We will continue to target efficiency in our fleet emissions and will push a comprehensive waste management approach, including education and innovative recycling.
Why council joined the Cities Power Partnership
The Council joined the Cities Power Partnership because we want to be a part of, and a leader in the push for more energy efficient and environmentally responsible councils. We are excited to begin working with other like-minded Councils. By sharing information and ideas, in this national collaborative approach, we can move forward and achieve greater outcomes for the benefit of all.
