Greg Mullins is an internationally recognised expert in responding to major bushfires and natural disasters, with more than 50 years’ experience as a firefighter. He coordinated responses to many major natural disasters over more than two decades and retired as Commissioner of Fire & Rescue New South Wales in January 2017 after nearly 14 years in the role. On retirement, he immediately rejoined the rural fire brigade where he started as a volunteer in 1972, and fought fires throughout New South Wales during Black Summer.

Portia Odell is Director of the Cities Power Partnership where she leads the delivery of the program’s strategy and impact. She holds a PhD from Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute and has a history working with communities, startups and governments helping them accelerate their climate projects. She is passionate about advancing the critical work of local governments taking meaningful action on climate change and is interested in the intersection between research, innovation and policy.

Dr Simon Bradshaw is a Researcher on climate science and impacts at the Climate Council. Simon has been a writer and campaigner for climate action for over a decade and was formerly the Climate Change Advocacy Lead at Oxfam Australia. Simon’s research and advocacy has taken him to the Torres Strait Islands, Tibet, India, throughout the Pacific, and to many rounds of international climate negotiations. He is passionate about climate justice and the role of climate action in reducing poverty and inequality. His research with the Climate Council covers extreme weather, bushfires, health, security and many other areas of climate science and impacts.

Anita’s substantive role is Director City Infrastructure. The City Infrastructure directorate has a key role in working towards Merri-bek’s zero carbon goal, with responsibility for Council’s waste services, open spaces and public tree canopy, capital projects and transport infrastructure and strategy.
Before joining Merri-bek, Anita spent 23 years working across three different state government bodies, most of which was at VicRoads leading policies and programs relating to walking, cycling and public transport, road safety and network operations.
Anita has been named among Victoria’s Top 50 public sector women and Alumnus of the Year for Monash University’s Civil Engineering department, where she studied Civil Engineering and undertook a Masters in Traffic and Transport.

Ryan Gale is an Associate in MinterEllison’s leading Climate Risk Governance team, focusing on climate change risks (and opportunities) through a financial, corporate governance and liability lens. He is known for his ability to communicate complex legal issues across the scientific, business and community sectors, and works broadly across both government clients and corporate listed and non-listed clients across the energy, financial services, mining, industrial and retail sectors. Ryan has extensive experience and a demonstrated passion for addressing critical environmental issues in the corporate law landscape, including a focus on identifying and addressing climate change risks (and opportunities) across supply chains, major projects and transactions.

She is a Professor and Dean of the School of Design at RMIT, visiting Professor at Northumbria University and international advisor to Parsons in New York. She is also currently a member of the 1851 Royal Commission Committee and a member of the global ‘States of Change’ faculty of public innovators. An internationally renowned expert in design, innovation and policy, Andrea has been recognised as ‘one of the UK’s foremost design thinkers’ and ‘one of the world’s most influential public sector innovators’.

Michael has been working in the energy sector focussed on efficiency and sustainability for almost two decades and joined RMIT 9 years ago to deliver the Sustainable Urban Precincts Program (SUPP). Since completing SUPP, he has continued to lead RMIT’s infrastructure and asset development/replacement strategy as relates to the achievement of RMIT’s carbon neutral commitments whilst ensuring reliable campus operations. Michael has a Masters in Engineering – Sustainable Energy and is a Climate Reality Leader/Mentor.

She undertook distance education in Natural Resource Management and Horticulture, established a family farm and contracted with National Parks. Today, she is a high school teacher and after 8 years as a Councillor, she was voted Mayor of Shoalhaven City Council in September 2016.

Rob Adams has been pivotal in revitalising central Melbourne since joining the City of Melbourne in 1985. Rob’s contributions to architecture and urban design have been widely recognized. He was honoured with the Order of Australia in 2007, awarded the Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year in 2008, and received the Sydney Luker Medal for Planning Institute of Australia and the Australia Award for Urban Design in Transforming Cities in 2009.

Tahlia Nolan has over a decade experience in energy markets, decarbonisation, and climate policy. She has previously held roles at Deloitte and UNSW, where she undertook some of the first detailed modelling of the hydrogen economy for Australia. She is a founding member of the Women in Energy Network, recently established to promote the advancement of women. She is also a doctoral candidate at Griffith University, researching decarbonisation pathways for Australia.
Jenny Edwards
Director, Light House Architecture and Science
Light House Architecture and Science is a multi-award-winning practice that integrates science (theoretical modelling and physical testing) into the design process to deliver highly efficient, all-electric, climate resilient homes — new and renovated — in the Canberra region. She is a scientist, not an architect.
Jenny has been awarded the national HIA GreenSmart Sustainable Home of the Year award (2018) and the Clem Cummings Medal by the ACT branch of the Institute of Architects (2019). In 2020, four all-electric Light House projects won national HIA GreenSmart awards. In 2021, the all-gas to all-electric renovation project, Little Loft House, won a prestigious sustainable architecture award. This year Jenny was named Energy Efficiency Champion of 2023 at the National Energy Efficiency Conference at UNSW for her free advocacy and education work about residential energy efficiency over the last 15 years.

Dr Steven Percy is a Senior Research Fellow at the Victorian Hydrogen Hub (VH2) at the Swinburne University of Technology. Steven leads VH2’s research in hydrogen modelling. Steven’s research focuses on assessing Australia’s potential to become an internationally competitive green hydrogen producer. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Melbourne and has about 15 years’ experience in the energy industry holding positions at CSIRO, Victorian university, and industry consulting. Steven is a 2020 Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellow in hydrogen research.

Ben is head of research and innovation with the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) where he leads delivery of the Innovate4Cities initiative, built to accelerate city climate action. He previously served in a strategy-focused role developing the overarching direction of the GCoM alliance at both global and regional levels, and has also worked with ICLEI and C40 Cities. A Filipino native, he is an alumnus of the Erasmus Mundus Masters in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP) and New York University in Abu Dhabi.

She has worked with state and local government and delivers a public benefit lens to urban and precinct planning. She regularly works with the insurance industry, local and state governments to provide insight into the cost of climate risk, and the benefits of community-based climate responses.
