Climate Summit for Local Government

Sept 6-8, 2023 | Melbourne

This study assessed the options for reliable local power supply that would meet Kangaroo Island’s electricity needs from resources on the island, while delivering power reliability that is equivalent to or better than would be provided by the new cable option. The local power supply modelled was largely based on renewable energy sources including wind, solar and potentially biomass, supported by batteries, demand management and back-up diesel generation. This study also considers how local supply options could allow Kangaroo Island to transition towards 100% renewable power. It can be used as a case study to support councils’ in their ambition to take the community to 100% renewable.
