Climate Summit for Local Government

Sept 6-8, 2023 | Melbourne

Lismore Community Solar is Australia’s first ever Council operated and community funded solar farms. The purpose of Lismore Community Solar was to create two 99kW solarfarms through a partnership between local community members and Lismore City Council ~ with funding provided by local community ‘impact’ investors and operation of the solarfarms by Lismore City Council. It had been applied for two projects, being 2 x 99kW solarfarms at the Goonellabah Sports & Aquatic Centre, and the East Lismore Sewerage Treatment Plant.

This website gives an account of the project development and background. It provides councils an example of a council-community energy project with funding provided by local community investors and operation of the solarfarms by a council.
