In 2016 the COAG Energy Ministers called for an independent review of the national electricity market to provide advice to governments on a coordinated, national reform blueprint. The Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market Preliminary Report – the Finkel Report – identifies the complex forces driving a rapid transition across the electricity sector. This resource could be used as a first port of call for councils as it summarises the current issues and challenges the energy sector in Australia. It can be used to inform advocating and campaign efforts by councils. It could also be used for planning purposes, giving an indication of the likely reforms to be implimented across the energy sector in Australia.
