Climate Summit for Local Government

Sept 6-8, 2023 | Melbourne

Join us for afternoon tea at 3pm AEST Thursday 6 July as we hear from the City of Greater Geelong who have an exemplary Net Zero Community Target of 2035, backed by an extensive Climate Change Response Plan. Council works hard to maintain its partnership with the community in order to achieve the 89 actions that are laid out in the plan.

Increasing the community’s awareness and understanding of climate impacts, whilst effectively communicating council’s strategy to mitigate climate change with the community, is essential if Geelong is to achieve its commitment to Net Zero.

Join us to hear about Geelong’s journey so far with its Net Zero Community target and the lessons learned along the way.

Presenter

Pete Mercouriou, Senior Sustainability Officer, City of Greater Geelong

Currently at Greater Geelong implementing the Climate Change Response Plan, Pete was formerly the Manager of the Metro Community Power Hub at the Yarra Energy Foundation, responsible for numerous successful solar programs. Prior to this he spent 5 years in the US as an Energy Efficiency Consultant working across the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, and is currently completing a PhD focused on embedding equity principles at the local government level to ensure a just transition during electric vehicle adoption.
