Climate Summit for Local Government

Sept 6-8, 2023 | Melbourne

Join us for afternoon tea at 3pm AEST Thursday 11 May as we hear from the Yarra Ranges Council in VIC, about their push for energy resilience and the exciting initiatives to have sprung from that.

Yarra Ranges Council aims to reach net zero emissions by 2040, with priority actions listed in their Liveable Climate Action Plan. A portion of this work is focused on improving the energy resilience of their townships in the face of extreme weather after experiencing widespread power outages and related impacts after extreme storm events in June 2021. This work includes climate resilient building upgrades and microgrid feasibility studies in three townships across the Yarra Ranges in collaboration with Monash University’s Net Zero Initiative.

Come along to learn about:

  • The role of community led innovative renewable energy projects in adapting to extreme weather
  • The benefit of partnerships across industry and academia
  • The potential of localised energy grids (microgrids)
  • Our learnings from our first two microgrid feasibility studies in Healesville & Yarra Junction

Our Afternoon Tea Q&As run for half an hour, every second Thursday at 3pm AEST, where a speaker presents on a climate topic relevant to local government and then opens the floor for questions and discussion.
