Sydney’s Northern Beaches Council is moving closer to its goal of having all of its suitable sites powered by renewable electricity by 2030.

At 265 kW, it’s also one of the largest systems on the Northern Beaches and is expected to offset nearly a quarter of the centre’s electricity demand from the grid.

As part of Council’s Charge Ahead program, an additional 400kW of solar panels have been installed on seven sites so far this year, which is comparable to around 60 household systems. These new solar installations will reduce Council’s carbon emissions by about 460 tonnes annually or the equivalent of taking 150 cars off our roads.

This has doubled the amount of solar power installed across their facilities, delivering significant cost savings by reducing our electricity bills.

Other site installations include:

  • 50kW system at Glen Street Library
  • 20kW system at Manly Senior Citizens Centre
  • An additional 20kW system at Boondah Depot
  • An additional 20kW system at Belrose Children’s Centre
  • 15kW system at Harbourview Children’s Centre
  • 10kW system at Kangaroo Street Children’s Centre

This continues the work that saw Northern Beaches Council reach Bronze Partner status through the NSW Government’s Sustainability Advantage Program.
