Local Government Grants & Incentives
QLD Catalysing Action Grants
The Catalysing action grants program provides funding to support ‘on-ground’ projects that demonstrate the delivery of carbon abatement alongside measurable environmental, social and economic co-benefits.
The program provides up to $4 million in funding, with up to $750,000 available per project.
Applications for this program involves a two-stage process: an Expression of Interest with shortlisted proposals invited to submit a full application. Currently closed
NSW Increasing Resilience to Climate Change grants
ROUND 2 ENTRIES NOW CLOSED. This new funding builds on on the 2014-16 “Building Resilience to Climate Change” grants program to address identified climate change risks and vulnerabilities facing NSW councils.
Collaboration with one or more councils, regional organisations, private sector or government agencies, community groups and other organisations is encouraged. The program is a partnership between the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage & Local Government NSW.

SA Local Government R&D Innovation Grants
ENTRIES CLOSE 26 JULY 2019. Annual grants for proposals which fit one or more of the priorities for research identified in the Annual Business Plan including Supporting healthy and resilient communities.
Eligible applicants include Local Governments, Regional Local Government Associations, Universities & other educational institutions, Local Government Professional Bodies, Local Government Unions, State or Federal Government Agencies; or any other organisation interested in collaborating with Local Government.
WA Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) Grants
A financial assistance program for local governments to maintain or increase participation in sport and recreation through rational development of good quality, well-designed and well-utilised facilities.
2 small grant rounds (up to $200,000) are offered per year & one round of annual & forward planning grants over $200,000
$1 million is allocated each round out of the $12 million available to projects that demonstrate sustainability principles/outcomes. Sustainability principles include reduction in energy or water use, minimisation of building waste, green-building design, efficient pool heating and capacity to self-fund maintenance. Only upgrades to existing facilities will be considered as part of this allocation. The maximum sustainability initiative grant available is $500,000. Small Grants Round Currently OPEN
NSW Environmental Education Grants
TIER 1 ENTRIES NOW OPEN - CLOSING JULY 22ND 2019. The Environmental Education grants program is funded through the NSW Environmental trust & distributes up to $1 million in each funding round for projects that develop knowledge and skills in protecting and restoring our environment.
NSW Community Partnership Building Grants
2019 APPLICATION PERIOD 2-27 SEPTEMBER. NSW Government Grants to fund the building and improvement of local community facilities. Incorporated not-for-profit community organisations and local councils are eligible to apply. Currently CLOSED & will open on September 2nd until September 27, 2019
NSW Regional Community Energy Fund Grants
CURRENTLY CLOSED A NSW Climate Change Fund initiative. $10m offered via Round 1 Grant applications from the NSW Regional Community Energy Fund Grants, which closed in May 2019. Up to 50% funding on offer for dispatchable renewable energy and storage projects of 100kW-5MW capacity that are owned or led by communities in regional NSW. Only projects that are in progressed stages of development will be funded. Feasibility studies & development approval costings can not be funded.
A further $10m in round 2 due to open in the second half of 2019.
Commonwealth Smart Cities & Suburbs Program
The national $50 million Smart Cities and Suburbs Program is supporting the delivery of innovative smart city projects that improve the liveability, productivity and sustainability of cities and towns across Australia. To date two rounds of funding have been approved. Currently awaiting Round 3 notification. The grants require co-contributions.
Energy Efficient Communities Program Grants
APPLICATIONS OPEN 1 SEP, 2019. The Commonwealth Energy Efficient Communities Program will deliver $50 million of grants to assist businesses and community organisations to improve energy efficiency practices and technologies and better manage energy consumption to reduce their power bills.
Funding will support activities to help community organisations save energy through equipment upgrades including energy generation and storage projects, investment in energy and emissions monitoring and management systems and energy systems assessments
NSW My Community Project Grants
2019 applications closed 15 May. The My Community Project grants program is a partnership model between an individual or community group with a local council as a project sponsor. Projects must align with one or more of the six program categories- accessible, cultural, healthy, liveable & revitalising communities.
