Afternoon Tea Q&A with Paul Dainton from Greater Shepparton City Council

1 Sep 2022
3:00pm - 3:30pm

Greater Shepparton’s journey towards zero emissions and climate action for the community

Join us for afternoon tea at 3pm AEST Thursday 1st September as we hear from Paul Dainton from Greater Shepparton City Council talk to us about their journey towards zero emissions and climate action for the community.

Greater Shepparton City Council declared a Climate Emergency and set a 2030 Zero Emissions Target in March of 2020. Since, a 2030 Zero Emissions Plan was adopted in December 2021 for Council’s corporate emissions, and more recently a Climate Emergency Action Plan was adopted in June 2022 for Council led climate action for the Community.

To ensure these plans conveyed the urgency required, whilst being achievable and relevant, there were many passionate members of the community and Council staff involved, but also with many challenges and opportunities uncovered throughout the journey. Although simultaneously in development, these 2 pieces of work resulted from quite different journeys, but both now requiring further resourcing and embedding into all Council operations and services. For both, there are some easy wins, and things already happening, but also some more difficult actions to investigate and tackle.
